In 2018 April, Burmese calendar turns the year 1380 and to mark the new year Myanmar celebrates Thingyan, the annual water festival. During the festival, celebrators take to the street to pour water on each other any way they can.

Burmese people believe that being doused with water will wash away any bad luck from recent years and generate new luck for the upcoming year. This year, the festival spanned over four days – April 13-16 – ending on the first day of the New Year 1380.
